About the city
Grasse is a town and episcopal see in southeastern France. It is a commune of the Alpes-Maritimes department, on the French Riviera. The town is located only 18 km from Cannes and it was once a famous resort, attracting such royalty as Queen Victoria and Princess Pauline Borghese, Napoleon’s promiscuous sister.
Grasse is France’s perfume capital and the hills surrounding the town are awash with jasmine and rose fields. The industry began in the late 18th century and to this day the town still produces more than 60% of France’s natural essences. Grasse’s International Perfume Museum enables visitors to learn more about the history of perfume and even mix their own fragrant concoctions.
