Grasse is a town and episcopal see in southeastern France. It is a commune of the Alpes-Maritimes department, on the French Riviera. The town is located only 18 km from Cannes and it was once a famous resort, attracting such royalty as Queen Victoria and Princess Pauline Borghese, Napoleon’s promiscuous sister.

The elongated Place aux Aires in Grasse is where the lively market is held every morning and also has a fountain. On the north side of the square stands the elegant Hotel Isnard which was built by the wealthy Gerber Isnard (1781).

Grasse has had a major perfume industry, recognized all over the world, since the 18^th century. The town is the center of the French perfume industry and is known as the world’s perfume capital. This industry turns over more than 600 million Euro a year.
